October has flown! Being in Japan for over half of the month has thrown me a bit out of sync with myself, though I love the portraits I was able to capture whilst out there. You can follow my weekly progress (I post a new portrait every Sunday) on Instagram under the tag - #julias52portraits

Leaving, exploring, learning and immersing yourself in new cultures are my favorite things about travel. I love to explore new places and set off on adventures. I’ve always loved to escape and get itchy feet quite often. My bucket list is very, very long and I am so thankful and happy and excited (!!!!!) to today be returning to my number 1 destination: Japan.

Japan Obsessed

My affiliation with Japan started when I was about 14 and I saw an episode of America's Next Top Model, where they went to Tokyo. Everything about it appealed to me and I knew I needed to visit! A few years later I discovered Studio Ghibli films; add to that a healthy obsession with stationery supplies, cats, nature and all things kawaii... it quickly became my no.1 travel destination. We first visited in 2015 and returning this year was something I was a bit nervous about. What if it doesn't compare? What if I've made it more than it was in hindsight? I can safely say it is still my favorite place in this world. I declare every day spent here to be the best ever and i feel so lucky to explore it again... hopefully not for the last time!

I am a child at heart, my name even means youthful! I can't resist games or playgrounds or squishy, cuddly toys. It's definitely one of the reasons why Tokyo attracts me; the sense of never growing up. The childhood nostalgia and glee, kawaii overloads and adults everywhere indulging their inner kid. Wanna come play?! (Side note; we won the fox toy in this image and are currently trying to figure out how to get him and the 3 other giant plushies home.... )

Small Town Girl

There's something about the anonymity you have and the ever changing landscape around you in a city. Things never stay the same for long in it's  bustling heart and you are just a small part of the neon beat. I grew up in a small town and always dreamed of moving away; to where things always happened and there was always stuff to do. I look at bright city lights with excitement and wonder, even now. Moving to an actual city when I was in my early twenties was a life goal come true for me and my favorite adventures are getting lost in new ones. As has been well documented over the last few weeks, Tokyo is my favorite. The brightest of lights and the craziest of vibes, as a small town girl, it's all I could ever ask for as a city dream!

Macabre subjects are the types of films, books and stories I love. Anything a little dark or creepy; disturbing and scary. I once lived in a house where I inherited the death certificate of the previous owner AKA the coolest thing ever. It was beautiful and I wanted to frame it. I like to find and explore graveyards every time I visit a new place or country. I can’t explain my attraction to these type of things, it’s just in me. A fascinating other world of mystery, culture, secrets and darkness.
